Covanta Lancaster Biomass Power Plant is a 35.7MW biopower project. It is located in Pennsylvania, the US. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in May 1991.

The project was developed by Covanta Lancaster. Covanta Lancaster and Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority are currently owning the project.

The project generates 5.6MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 20,000 households.

The process of combustion has been adopted in this project to release the stored energy from the feed. Refuse which is a kind of municipal solid waste is used as a feedstock to power the project.

The project got commissioned in May 1991.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to GPU Energy under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Elliott was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the project. The company provided 1 unit of Condensing steam turbine turbine with 35.7MW nameplate capacity.

Zurn supplied steam boiler for the project. The temperature witnessed inside the boiler is around 330Degree Fahrenheit. The steam is pressurized inside the boiler at 850psig.

Covanta Lancaster and Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority were contracted to render operations & maintenance services for the project.
