Description

The project was developed by Genesis Eco-Energy, Globeleq South Africa Management Services, Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens. Enzani Technologies, Globeleq South Africa Management Services, Thebe Investment and Usizo Engineering are currently owning the project.

Droogfontein Solar Park is a ground-mounted solar project which is spread over an area of 90 hectares.

The project generates 85,458MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 30,000 households, offsetting 79,368t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

Development status

The project construction commenced in 2012 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in April 2014.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years from 2014. The contracted capacity is 50MW.

Contractors involved

Siemens was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the solar PV power project.

Wuxi Suntech Power was selected as the supplier of the PV modules for the project. The company provided 168,720 modules each with 290W of nameplate capacity.

Siemens supplied its SINVERT PVS 2400 inverters to the project site.

Globeleq South Africa Management Services and Siemens were contracted to render operations & maintenance services for the project.
