Electricity procurement contracts in October 2021 saw 65 contracts announced, marking a drop of 38% over the last 12-month average of 104, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 46 contracts and a 70.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 15 contracts and a 23.1% share
  3. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 6.2% share.

Europe leads electricity procurement activity in October 2021

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 24 contracts and a share of 36.9% during October 2021, followed by North America with 17 contracts and a 26.2% share and Asia-Pacific with 14 contracts and a 21.5% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in October 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 54 contracts with a 76.1% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 14.1% share and hydro with three contracts and a 4.2% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 581.57MW from 15 contracts
  2. BHP (Australia): 320MW from one contract
  3. Pfizer (United States): 310MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Iberdrola (Spain): 320MW from one contract
  2. Vesper Energy (United States): 310MW from one contract
  3. Cypress Creek Renewables (United States): 270MW capacity from one contract.
