Description

The project is currently owned by Vattenfall with a stake of 100%.

Goldisthal is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 12 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 302m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 820m. The penstock diameter is 6.2m. The project generated 1,806 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $860m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1997 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2003.

Contractors Involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 turbines, each with 261MW nameplate capacity.
