Description

Grand Gulf 1 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by GE Power, the main contractor for the project.

The 1,500MW reactor is operated by Entergy Nuclear. System Energy Resources and Cooperative Energy are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 90% and 10% respectively.

The BWR reactor generates 8,600.33GWh/annum of electricity. It features 800 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

The reactor consists of 1 steam turbine.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in May, 1974 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Jul, 1985.

Contractors involved

Bechtel was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by GE Power. The reactor vessel has been supplied by McDermott International. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (CST-SS-Clad). The civil works were carried out by Bechtel.
