Description

Hamaoka 5 is a Generation III nuclear reactor developed by Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy and Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,380MW reactor is owned and operated by Chubu Electric Power.

Hamaoka 5 is a type of BWR reactor. It features 872 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SQV2A,SFVQ1A).

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Jul, 2000 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Jan, 2005.

Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy and Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions were selected as the architect engineers for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions.
