Huoi Quang is a 520MW hydro power project. It is located on Nam Mu river/basin in Lai Chau, Vietnam. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. The project construction commenced in 2008 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2015.

Description

The project is developed and owned by Vietnam Electricity.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 184.2 million cubic meter. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The project generated 1,900 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $565.1m.

Contractors Involved

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The project consists of 2 units of Francis turbines, each with 260MW nameplate capacity.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 1 electric generator for the Huoi Quang (Huoi Quang Unit I). The generator capacity is 260 MVA.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 1 electric generator for the Huoi Quang (Huoi Quang Unit II). The generator capacity is 260 MVA.
