Jirau, Brazil

Jirau is a 3,750MW hydro power project. It is located on Madeira river/basin in Rondonia, Brazil. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. The project construction commenced in 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2013.

Description

The project was developed by Energia Sustentavel do Brasil. Engie, Companhia Hidro Eletrica do Sao Francisco, Eletrosul Centrais Eletricas and Mitsui are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 40%, 20%, 20% and 20% respectively.

Jirau is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 30m. The project cost is $7,938.48m.

The Jirau (Jirau Active Units) has 18 electric generators installed at the site. The generator capacity is 83.33 MVA.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2013.

Jirau (Jirau Active Units) is equipped with Andritz Hydro bulb turbines. The phase consists of 8 turbines with 76.55MW nameplate capacity.

Jirau (Jirau Active Units) is equipped with Dongfang Electric bulb turbines. The phase consists of 14 turbines with 76.5MW nameplate capacity.

Jirau (Jirau Active Units) is equipped with GE Renewable Energy bulb turbines. The phase consists of 10 turbines with 76.55MW nameplate capacity.

Jirau (Jirau Active Units) is equipped with Voith Hydro Holding bulb turbines. The phase consists of 10 turbines with 76.55MW nameplate capacity.

Jirau (Jirau Main Units) is equipped with Dongfang Electric bulb turbines. The phase consists of 8 turbines with 76.5MW nameplate capacity.

Dongfang Electric supplied 12 electric generators for the Jirau (Jirau Active Units). The generator capacity is 83.33 MVA.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 10 electric generators for the Jirau (Jirau Active Units). The generator capacity is 83.33 MVA.

Dongfang Electric supplied 8 electric generators for the Jirau (Jirau Main Units). The generator capacity is 83.33 MVA.
