The project is currently owned by Taiwan Power.
Kukuan is a run-of-river with pondage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 13.2 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 172.7m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 211.8m. Kukuan underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2008. The project generated 528 GWh of electricity.

Mitsubishi Electric was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 55.3MW nameplate capacity.
