Kurichu is a 60MW hydro power project. It is located on Kurichu river/basin in Mongar, Bhutan. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1995 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Description

The project is currently owned by Druk Green Power.

Kurichu is a run-of-river project. The net head of the project is 32m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock diameter is 4m. The project generated 400 GWh of electricity.

Contractors Involved

NHPC was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.

Bharat Heavy Electricals was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of kaplan turbines, each with 15MW nameplate capacity.

Bharat Heavy Electricals supplied 4 electric generators for the project.
