Lauca, Angola

Lauca is a 2,070.5MW hydro power project. It is located on Kwanza river/basin in Malanje, Angola. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. The project construction commenced in 2012 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2017.

Description

The project is currently owned by Empresa Nacional de Electricidade – E.P.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 533 million cubic meter. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 6 in number. The penstock length is 2,000m. The project generated 8,600 GWh of electricity.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2012 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2017.

Contractors Involved

Novonor was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.

Lauca (Ancillary Lauca Powerplant) is equipped with Andritz Hydro francis turbine. The phase consists of 1 turbine with 66.5MW nameplate capacity.

Lauca (Lauca Unit I, II) is equipped with Andritz Hydro francis turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 334MW nameplate capacity.

Lauca (Lauca Unit III, IV) is equipped with Andritz Hydro francis turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 334MW nameplate capacity.

Lauca (Lauca Unit V) is equipped with Andritz Hydro francis turbine. The phase consists of 1 turbine with 334MW nameplate capacity.

Lauca (Lauca Unit VI) is equipped with Andritz Hydro francis turbine. The phase consists of 1 turbine with 334MW nameplate capacity.

Andritz Hydro supplied 1 electric generator for the Lauca (Ancillary Lauca Powerplant). The generator capacity is 65 MVA.

Andritz Hydro supplied 2 electric generators for the Lauca (Lauca Unit I, II). The generator capacity is 334 MVA.

Andritz Hydro supplied 2 electric generators for the Lauca (Lauca Unit III, IV). The generator capacity is 334 MVA.

Andritz Hydro supplied 1 electric generator for the Lauca (Lauca Unit V). The generator capacity is 334 MVA.

Andritz Hydro supplied 1 electric generator for the Lauca (Lauca Unit VI). The generator capacity is 334 MVA.
