Longkaikou, China

Longkaikou is a 1,800MW hydro power project. It is located on Jinsha river/basin in Yunnan, China. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2008 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2013.

The project was developed by Langcangjiang Hydro. China Huaneng Group, Jinsha River Hydropower Development and Yunnan Development Investment are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 95%, 3% and 2% respectively.

Longkaikou is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 558 million cubic meter. The project generated 7,820 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $1,242.1m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2008 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2013.

Contractors Involved

Voith Hydro Holding was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 5 units of francis turbines, each with 360MW nameplate capacity.

Voith Hydro Holding supplied 4 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 400 MVA.
