Lower Churchill – Gull Island, Canada

Lower Churchill – Gull Island is a 2,250MW hydro power project. It is planned on Churchill river/basin in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The project is currently in announced stage. It will be developed in single phase. Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2031.

Description

The project is being developed by Emera and Nalcor Energy. These companies also have ownership stakes in the project.

Lower Churchill – Gull Island is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project will be 86m. The project is expected to generate 11,900 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $5,574.893m.

The hydro power project consists of 5 turbines, each with 450MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2031.
