Malakand is an 81MW hydro power project. It is located on Swat river/basin in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 2008.

The project was developed by Sarhad Hydel Development Organization.
Malakand is a run-of-river project. The net head of the project is 183.5m. The penstock length is 731m. The penstock diameter is 4m. The project generated 553 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $62.588m.

The project got commissioned in 2008.

National Transmission & Despatch and Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority are the power offtakers from the project.
Contractors Involved
Harbin Power Engineering was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of francis turbines, each with 27.9MW nameplate capacity.
