Description

The project is currently owned by VERBUND Hydro Power with a stake of 100%.

Malta Hauptstufe is a pumped storage project. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 1,843m. The penstock diameter is 2.5m. The project generated 618.4 GWh of electricity.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1971 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1978.

Contractors Involved

Voith Hydro Holding was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of pelton turbines, each with 182.5MW nameplate capacity.

Andritz Hydro supplied electric generator(s) for the project. The generator capacity is 220 MVA.
