The project is developed and owned by Vattenfall. The company has a stake of 100%.
Markersbach is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 6.3 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 288m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 915m. The penstock diameter is 6.2m. Markersbach underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 1990,1998, 2007-2008, 2014-2017. The project generated 980 GWh of electricity.
The nameplate capacity of electric generator(s) installed at the site is 220 MVA.

CKD Blansko Holding was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.
Litostroj Engineering was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 6 units of francis turbines, each with 175MW nameplate capacity.
