Middle East and Africa thermal technology tenders in Q2 2019 saw 73 tenders announced, marking a rise of 16% over the last four-quarter average of 63, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter in Middle East and Africa, accounting for 60 tenders and an 83.3% share, followed by Coal with eight tenders and an 11.1% share. Gas stood in third place with four tenders and a 5.6% share.

The proportion of thermal technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection with 44 tenders and a 60.3% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 25 tenders and a 34.2% share
3. Project Implementation: three tenders and a 4.1% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 1.4% share.

South Africa tops Middle East and Africa thermal power tenders activity

South Africa was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for thermal technology tenders recorded in Q2 2019 with 18 tenders and a 24.7% share, followed by Nigeria with seven tenders and a 9.6% share and Saudi Arabia with six tenders and an 8.2% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

1. Electricity Generation Company Malawi (Malawi): 250MW from one tender
2. Rural Areas Electricity Company SAO.C. (Oman): 200MW from one tender.
