“The first concentrating solar power (CSP) project ever in South America is installed in the Atacama Desert in Chile.
The 10.5 MW thermal parabolic trough plant is integrated into the Electrowinning (EW) process at a copper mine operated by Minera El Tesoro, a subsidiary of Antofagasta Minerals.
The plant incorporates thermal energy storage that allows the delivery of thermal energy for up to 6.5 hours at rated power after the sun goes down.
