Description
The project is being developed and currently owned by Atlantic Energy Partners and Energy & Natural Resource Corporation (Botswana). The company's ownership stake in the project stands as 15% and 5% respectively.
It is a Steam Turbine power plant that will be used for Baseload. The power plant can run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant will be bituminous. In case of shortage of bituminous the plant will run on Diesel Fuel oil. The fuel will be procured from Morupule Coal Mine.

Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2025. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2026.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the Morupule Coal Fired Power Plant (Morupule Coal Fired Power Plant Unit I) will be sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement for a period of 30 years.
The power generated from the Morupule Coal Fired Power Plant (Morupule Coal Fired Power Plant Unit II) will be sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement for a period of 30 years.
