Nam Kong 2 is a 66MW hydro power project. It is located on Nam Kong river/basin in Attapu, Laos. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2018.

The project was developed by Chaleun Sekong Energy and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Hydropower Joint Stock. The project is currently owned by Chaleun Sekong Energy with a stake of 100%.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 71.4 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 97.9m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 1 in number. The penstock length is 370m. The penstock diameter is 4.2m. The project generated 263 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $85m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2018.

Power Purchase Agreement

Electricite du Laos and Vietnam Electricity are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors Involved

Addnew Hydropower Limited & Addnew Technologies was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of francis turbines, each with 22MW nameplate capacity.
