Nam Leuk, Laos

Nam Leuk is a 60MW hydro power project. It is located on Nam Leuk river/basin in Vientiane, Laos. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1996 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2000.

Nam Leuk is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 185 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 46.5m. The penstock length is 471m. The penstock diameter is 3.4m. The project generated 215 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $111.2m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1996 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2000.

Contractors Involved

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 30MW nameplate capacity.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries supplied electric generator(s) for the project.
