Nam Lik 1, Laos

Nam Lik 1 is a 64.5MW hydro power project. It is located on Nam Lik river/basin in Vientiane, Laos. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2014 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2019.

The project is developed and owned by EDL-Generation Public, Global Power Synergy Public, Hydro Engineering and POSCO Engineering & Construction. The company’s ownership stake in the project stands as 40%, 40%, 10% and 10% respectively.

Nam Lik 1 is a run-of-river project. The gross head and net head of the project are 23m and 22.31m respectively. The penstock length is 100m. The penstock diameter is 6.6m. The project generated 256 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $124m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2014 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2019.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Electricite du Laos under a power purchase agreement for a period of 30 years. The contracted capacity is 63.8MW.

Contractors Involved

POSCO Engineering & Construction was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of bulb turbines, each with 32.25MW nameplate capacity.

Andritz Hydro supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 39.3 MVA.

Korea Western Power is the O&M contractor for the hydro power project.
