ABB power systems division head Peter Leupp said that the investment will help the company to boost its production capacity and meet growing demand for high-voltage subsea power cables.

"Subsea cables play an integral part in the efficient and reliable transmission of electricity for a range of applications, such as inter-connectors between countries, offshore wind connections and power supply to oil and gas platforms," said Leupp.

The expansion is expected to be completed by 2015.

Earlier this year, ABB completed a major upgrade at its Karlskrona facility.
