Alstom has secured a €110m framework contract from American Electric Power (AEP) to conduct upgrades at seven of its coal-fired power plants located in the US.

The plants, located in the states of Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia, have a combined generating capacity of 1,300MW.

Under the framework contract,Alstom will upgrade the low pressure steam turbines by implementing its rotating and stationary blade design technology,.

The improvements will be performed over a period of several years, with the first unit being commissioned in 2013.
