The United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded a patent for proprietary plant design to Florida-based power solution provider APR Energy.

The innovation by APR Energy was introduced first in 2012 and has been found to significantly reduce installation time for mobile power plants by up to 50%.

Installation of large scale power plants has turned easy with the portable power plant design, which uses a ‘plug-and-play’ modular system, scalable in 6MW blocks.

In addition to reducing installation time, the design has also been found to be cost-effective.

The company also expects to receive another patent by the end of October for its 40ft transformer substation container design, which allows it to match the majority of the global 50Hz and 60Hz utility distribution voltages.

"The innovation has been found to significantly reduce installation time for mobile power plants by up to 50%."

The dual innovations by APR Energy are scalable to more than 400MW, and have helped reduce construction time for power facilities having capacity of 50MW or above.

The systems have been used by the company in seven of its plant installations since 2012, including a 120MW power plant in Cyprus and a 32MW facility in Oman.

APR Energy research and development director Edmund Campion and his brother and APR Energy executive chairman John Campion are the inventors of the patented systems.

John Campion said: "Innovation and state-of-the-art technology are a major part of APR Energy’s DNA and have set us apart as a leader in our industry.

"The patents we have been awarded are the result of a tremendous amount of work and knowledge gained through years of experience mobilising over 2,500MW of fast-track power to more than 25 countries around the world."
