French power plant developer Areva has signed a contract with Brazilian utility BOLT Energias for construction of the 150MW Campo Grande biomass facility in Bahia, Brazil.
Located in the north-eastern Brazilian state, the facility will house three 50MW modules, which will be fuelled with woody biomass.

According to the agreement, Areva will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction services at the power plant.
Once operational, the plant will become the largest biomass powered facility in Brazil."
The facility’s connection to the national electric grid is expected by the third quarter of 2017.

In January this year, the power plant builder delivered a 49.9MW biomass fuelled plant in the Netherlands to Dutch utility Eneco.
The global bioenergy portfolio of Areva includes 95 biomass power facilities with a combined installation capacity of more than 2,500MW.
