Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned the fourth and last unit of the 4×40 MW Teesta Low Dam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) Stage-IV in the state of West Bengal, India.

Established by NHPC, Teesta HEP is a run-of-the-river greenfield project located in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

The project has been said to reduce green-house gas emissions.

"BHEL was responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of complete E&M equipment."

BHEL secured the electrical and mechanical (E&M) works for four units of 40MW each from NHPC. 

Under the scope of work, BHEL was responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of complete E&M equipment, including vertical-shaft Kaplan turbines and matching generators.

The equipment was delivered by BHEL units in Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur and Bengaluru, while the work was executed by its Eastern Region power segment.

The company is working on hydro-electric projects that will provide around 3,300MW in India.

Other NHPC projects undertaken by BHEL include the 4x200MW Parbati HEP Stage – II and 3x110MW Kishanganga HEP.

In West Bengal, the company is also working on NTPC's 3x40MW Rammam Stage-III hydro-electric project .
