The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) has been commissioned to model the UK’s tidal energy resources to understand the effects of different interacting tidal energy schemes.

The £450,000 tidal modelling project will be led by Black & Veatch, supported by HR Wallingford and the University of Edinburgh.

ETI will develop models for possible future tidal stream and tidal range sites for the whole UK Continental Shelf.

HR Wallingford will provide the models to the wider marine industry, on completion of the project late next year.

The work will be carried out at sites in Redhill, Surrey, Wallingford, Oxfordshire and Edinburgh.
