Hyundai Heavy Industries, the Korean shipbuilder and engineering company, has completed the construction of a transformer factory in Alabama, US.

The 404,000m2 factory was built with an investment of $100m.

The plant has an annual production capacity of 200 units of 500kV transformers.

Hyundai Heavy expects the new transformer plant to provide more sales opportunities for medium-sized transformers in both the North American and Latin American markets.

According to Goulden Reports, a research firm specialising in the electricity and electrical equipment markets, the US transformer market will grow to $4.3 billion by 2015 due to increasing demand for new equipment and expansion.
