The substation has been designed to receive energy produced by the hydropower plant of the same name.
The new installation will supply power to one million residents living in the regions of Perm, Udmurt, Kirov, Bashkir and Sverdlovsk.
Iberdrola will construct the substation inside a building and it will be equipped with the latest technology in gas insulated switchgear (GIS).
This enables the facilities to not only take up 90% less space than conventional models while better adapting to the environment, but also to incorporate the latest in technological advances.

By GlobalDataAccording to Iberdrola, the project is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2014.
The company will be in-charge of engineering, storage, construction and commissioning of the infrastructure for the Votkinskaya turnkey project.
This new infrastructure will be replacing the now-obsolete current substation that was constructed in 1963.
Iberdorla will build a 500kV substation for the first time in extreme weather conditions that could drop as low as -38º, while meeting strict deadlines.
With the old substation still in service, the company will carry out the project by adding a certain degree of complexity to the work and requiring the establishment of a series of stages to hand control of the original station over to the new one.
Iberdrola Ingeniería’s core business include turnkey projects for other group companies and third parties in the fields of generation, nuclear power, grids and renewable energies.
