The Indian Ministry of Power has approved nine new projects, which are valued at more than INR125bn ($2bn), aimed to advance building of high capacity inter-state transmission lines.

Several states such as Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and others will be aided with the transmission projects.

The projects will provide high-capacity 765kV lines carrying up to 2,100MW each, in addition to construction of new 765/400kV substations.

Additionally, the projects will help evacuate power from generating stations including 660MW Sipat of NTPC, 1,600MW Gadarwara and Sassan UMPP (1,320MW).

The transmission schemes also include transmission system for LTA of 400MW for 2x500MW Neyveli Lignite TS-I (Replacement) (NNTPS) in Neyveli and transmission System Strengthening associated with Vindhyachal-V.

In next three years, the total inter-regional transmission capacity of around 28,000MW will be added in the nation, to enhance the total capacity to more than 66,000MW by 2017.
