Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has approved a key draft report for two more reactors at Kansai Electric Power’s Takahama nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture.
The approval was given after the reactors passed safety regulations necessary for reactivation, reports The Japan News.

This authorisation is the second in the country. The first approval was given for the reactivation of reactors 1 and 2 at Kyushu Electric Power’s Sendai nuclear power plant in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Japan had instructed NRA to perform safety screening for 21 reactors at 14 nuclear power plants.
Municipalities in Fukui, Kyoto and Shiga prefectures, which are within a 30km radius of the Takahama nuclear power plant, will be cleared for the plant to be active. Japan will need to make emergency evacuation plans and take other necessary measures for precaution in the region.

By GlobalDataJapanese Industry Minister Yoichi Miyazawa says that the government intends to stick to its policy for restarting nuclear power plants, after it was approved by the NRA, according to WSJ. Japan is also likely to increase its renewable energy as much as possible, the minister added.
