In an attempt to expand nuclear cooperation between China and Russia, the countries are in talks for the construction of new units in existing Chinese facilities.
The two countries are currently in discussions about building the seventh and eighth power units of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China’s Jiangsu Province.

The project will be carried out under the supervision of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, reported the Finmarket news agency.
Russia and China had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) a year back that resulted in deals, including initial agreements on construction of floating nuclear power stations.
The first two power units at Tianwan were commissioned in 2007 following which, the next two were commissioned in 2009.
Rosatom is currently in the middle of constructing the third and fourth power unit in the Chinese province.

By GlobalDataIt was reported by the Vedomosti business daily that the fifth and sixth units had to be brought to a halt after China began building them on its own designs and later suspended the construction.
Russia Beyond the Headlines also reported that Rosatom was considering increasing its 2015 investment programme by 10% to RUB350bn ($6.3bn) and expand cooperation with China.
In the past few months, Rosatom has entered into numerous agreements to enhance its international presence. It signed agreements with Hungary, Egypt and Jordan. Recently, the company also signed a $10bn contract for the construction of Jordan’s first nuclear power plant.
