Japan’s telecom company Softbank has begun construction of a 100kW demonstration solar plant in Obihiro city, Japan.

The plant, to be located on a 3,000m2 area, will be equipped with solar panels made by Kyocera Corporation and Canadian Solar.

Softbank plans to start work on two more demonstration plants this month having a combined capacity of 50kW in Tomakomai city, Hokkaido.

The telecom firm plans to collect data on power generation efficiency from the demonstration plants, reports Bloomberg.

Masayoshi Son, Softbank CEO, said the company plans to invest as much as JYP20bn ($256m) to develop clean-energy projects.
