North America power industry contracts in December 2019: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in December 2019 with 36 contracts and a share of 92.3%, up 4.4% over the previous month and down 22% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Mexico with three contracts and a share of 7.7%.
Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 46 contracts, followed by Canada with three and Mexico with three contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in December 2019
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 16 contracts and a 47.1% share, followed by solar with 11 contracts and a 32.4% share and thermal with six contracts and a 17.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in December 2019, with 13 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (10) and Power Plant (9).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 38.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: ten contracts and a 25.6% share
- Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 20.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 12.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 2.6% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (United States): 804MW from one contract
- El Paso Electric (United States): 250MW from three contracts
- RWE Renewables Americas (United States): 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Vineyard Wind (United States): 804MW from one contract
- EDF Renewables North America (United States): 232MW from two contracts
