Noupoort is an 80.5MW onshore wind power project. It is located in Northern Cape, South Africa. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2015 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in July 2016.

Description

The project was developed by AMDA energia and Lekela Power. Lekela Power, Revego Africa Energy, Thebe Investment and Futuregrowth Asset Management are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 40%, 15%, 10% and 5% respectively.

The project generates 304,800MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 69,000 households, offsetting 300,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is $130.4m.

The project is currently active. The project construction commenced in 2015 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in July 2016.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years.

Contractors Involved

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the wind power project. The company provided 35 units of SWT-2.3-108 turbines, each with 2.3MW nameplate capacity.

Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy were contracted to render operations & maintenance services for the project.

The wind power project consists of Hybrid towers supplied by GRI Towers South Africa. These towers are around 99.5m high.
