Old Laxapana, Sri Lanka

Old Laxapana is a 50MW hydro power project. It is located on Kehelgamu Oya river/basin in Central, Sri Lanka. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 1950.

Old Laxapana is a reservoir based project. Old Laxapana underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2011-2013. The project generated 271.476 GWh of electricity.

The hydro power project consists of 2 turbines, each with 12.5MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

The project got commissioned in 1950.

Contractors Involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of pelton turbines, each with 8.33MW nameplate capacity.

The electric generators for the project were procured from Andritz Hydro and Westinghouse Electric.
