Omkareshwar is a 520MW hydro power project. It is located on Narmada river/basin in Madhya Pradesh, India. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2003 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2007.

Description

The project was developed by NHDC. NHDC and Government Of Madhya Pradesh are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51% and 49% respectively.

Omkareshwar is a reservoir based project. The net head of the project is 31.09m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 8 in number. The penstock diameter is 7.66m. The project generated 1,167 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $460.74m.

Contractors Involved

Voith Hydro Holding was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 8 units of francis turbines, each with 65MW nameplate capacity.

Voith Hydro Holding supplied 8 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 80 MVA.
