Pehuenche is a 570MW hydro power project. It is located on Melado river/basin in Maule, Chile. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 1991.

The project was developed by Endesa and is currently owned by Empresa Electrica Pehuenche with a stake of 100%.

Pehuenche is a reservoir based project. The gross head of the project is 206m. The project generated 2,524 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $394.95m.

The power generated from the project is sold to Sistema Interconectado Central under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 285MW nameplate capacity.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 290 MVA.
