Piedra del Aguila is a 1,440MW hydro power project. It is located on Limay river/basin in Neuquen, Argentina. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1985 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1993.

Description

The project was developed by Webuild and is currently owned by Central Puerto.

Piedra del Aguila is a reservoir based project. The net head of the project is 111m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock length is 88m. The penstock diameter is 9m. The project generated 6,018 GWh of electricity.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1985 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1993.

Contractors Involved

Turboatom was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 356MW nameplate capacity.

Power Machines supplied 4 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 390 MVA.
