Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 16 contracts and a 55.2% share, followed by Coal with nine contracts and a 31% share. Oil stood in third place with four contracts and a 13.8% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during July 2019 with a 14.2% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 50% share
  2. Project Implementation: six contracts and a 23.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 19.2% share
  4. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 3.8% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 3.8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in July 2019

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 13 contracts and a share of 50% during July 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 23.1% share and North America with four contracts and a 15.4% share.

In fourth place was Europe with two contracts and a 7.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one contract and a 3.8% share.

  1. JERA (Japan) and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy (Japan): 2,340MW from one contract

  3. Volkswagen Kraftwerk (Germany): 288MW capacity from one contract.

  1. Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Japan) and Toshiba Plant Systems & Services (Japan): 2,340MW from one contract
  2. China Machinery Engineering (China): 300MW from one contract
  3. Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe (Germany): 288MW capacity from one contract.
