Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 437 tenders and an 84.9% share, followed by Coal with 45 tenders and an 8.7% share. Gas stood in third place with 33 tenders and a 6.4% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2019 with a 56.3% share.
The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 324 tenders and a 62.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 174 tenders and a 33.4% share
- Project Implementation: 11 tenders and a 2.1% share

Asia-Pacific leads thermal tenders activity in Q4 2019
Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 282 tenders and a share of 54.1% during Q4 2019, followed by North America with 168 tenders and a 32.2% share and Middle East and Africa with 37 tenders and a 7.1% share.
In fourth place was Europe with 34 tenders and a 6.5% share.

The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Comision Federal de Electricidad (Mexico): 1,683.85MW from three tenders
- Ceylon Electricity Board (Sri Lanka): 96MW from one tender
