Purulia PSP is a 900MW hydro power project. It is located on Kestobazar nala river/basin in West Bengal, India. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 2007.

Description

The project is developed and owned by NHPC and West Bengal State Electricity Distribution. The company’s ownership stake in the project stands as 67% and 33% respectively.

Purulia PSP is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 16.5 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 177m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock diameter is 7.7m. The project generated 637 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $1,444.5m.

Development Status

The project got commissioned in 2007.

Contractors Involved

Toshiba India was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 225MW nameplate capacity.

Toshiba India supplied 4 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 280 MVA.
