Description

Sanmen 2 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor developed by China Nuclear Engineering & Construction, State Nuclear Power Technology and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,251MW reactor is operated by Sanmen Nuclear Power. China National Nuclear, Zhejiang Provincial Energy Group, China Huadian and China Nuclear Engineering & Construction are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51%, 20%, 10% and 5% respectively.

The PWR reactor generates 9,140.14GWh/annum of electricity. It features 157 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Dec, 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Nov, 2018.

Contractors involved

The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by Harbin Electric and Mitsubishi Power. Ansaldo Nucleare was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The reactor vessel have been supplied by China First Heavy Industries (Group) Co Ltd and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Carbon Steel. The civil works were carried out by China Nuclear Industry 22nd Construction.
