Sawalkot, India

Sawalkot is a 1,856MW hydro power project. It is planned on Chenab river/basin in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. The project construction is likely to commence in 2023 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2025.

The project is being developed by Hindustan Construction, Ozaltin Holding and SPAS. The project is currently owned by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development.

Sawalkot is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 550 million cubic meter. The net head of the project will be 154.4m. The penstock length will be 608m. The penstock diameter will be 1.25m. The project is expected to generate 7,998 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $3,425.85m.

Sawalkot (Sawalkot Stage I Unit-I) consists of 1 unit of francis turbine with 56MW nameplate capacity.

Sawalkot (Sawalkot Stage I Unit-II) consists of 6 units of francis turbines with 225MW nameplate capacity.

Sawalkot (Sawalkot Stage II) consists of 2 units of francis turbines with 225MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2023. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2025.

Contractors Involved

Hindustan Construction is expected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.
