Smart grid tenders in Q1 2020 saw 33 tenders announced, marking a drop of 31% over the last four-quarter average of 48, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 15 tenders and a 45.5% share
2. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and a 30.3% share
3. Project Implementation: eight tenders and a 24.2% share.

Europe leads smart grid activity in Q1 2020

Comparing tenders activity in smart grid segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 12 tenders and a share of 36.4% during Q1 2020, followed by Middle East and Africa with seven tenders and a 21.2% share and Asia-Pacific with seven tenders and a 21.2% share.

Among the technologies, solar accounted for three tenders with a 75% share, followed by hydro with one tender and a 25% share.

The top issuers of smart grid tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Portsmouth City Council (United Kingdom): 0.25MW from one tender
2. Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa mis First Nations: 0.22MW from one tender.
