Description
Taishan 1 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor developed by Framatome, the main contractor for the project.
The 1,750MW reactor is operated by Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture. China General Nuclear Power and Electricite de France are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 70% and 30% respectively.
The PWR reactor generates 7,616.68GWh/annum of electricity. It features 241 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.
Development status
The reactor construction commenced in Nov, 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Dec, 2018.
Contractors involved
The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by Dongfang Electric and GE Power. The reactor system was supplied by Framatome SAS, China Nuclear Power Engineering Co Ltd and China Nuclear Power Design. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The material used for the construction of the vessel is 16MND5.
