Tawang I is a 600MW hydro power project. It is planned on Tawangchu river/basin in Arunachal Pradesh, India. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in single phase. The project construction is likely to commence in 2025 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2029.

The project is being developed and currently owned by NHPC.
Tawang I is a run-of-river project. The project is expected to generate 2,963 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $746.175m.
The hydro power project consists of 3 turbines, each with 200MW nameplate capacity.
Development Status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2025. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2029.
Power Purchase Agreement
Assam Power Distribution, Bihar State Power Holding, Mizoram Power and Electricity Department and Uttarakhand Power are expected to be the power offtakers from the project.
