Description

Waterford 3 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Combustion Engineering, the main contractor for the project.

The 1,250MW reactor is currently owned by Entergy Louisiana (100%) and operated by Entergy Nuclear.

The PWR reactor generates 7,859GWh/annum of electricity. It features 217 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 42 in number.

The reactor consists of 1 steam turbine.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Nov, 1974 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Sep, 1985.

Contractors involved

Ebasco was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Combustion Engineering. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Combustion Engineering. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533). The civil works were carried out by Ebasco.
