The project is currently owned by Ceylon Electricity Board with a stake of 100%.
Wimalasurendra is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 44.8 million cubic meter. The project generated 80 GWh of electricity.
Development Status
The project got commissioned in 1965.
Contractors Involved
GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 25MW nameplate capacity.
Westinghouse Electric supplied electric generator(s) for the project.
